Vehicle Broken into on Ashburnham Road |
Last night at ten to eight a call came through that a suspect on an electric bike was seen looking into cars with a torch on Burnaby Street. Chelsea Safer Neighbourhood Officers ran to the scene and just missed apprehending the suspect who made off the wrong way down Cremorne Road. Officers discovered an Audi that had had it's back passenger side window smashed. Checks showed that the owner did not live in the area and officers suspected the occupants were at the Chelsea game. We did an area search to see if any other cars had been broken into, which wasn't the case. Later that night we returned to the vehicle to try and speak to the owner after the game and meet him in person. He returned with his friend and we gave him the bad news. His friend had left his Laptop bag on the back seat that also contained some personal items. These thieves are opportunists. Anything left in the vehicle, even an empty shopping bag will be seen as a possible high value item and they will take a chance. It was the quick response of a neighbour that alerted the police that this suspect was in the area and possibly averted more cars being broken into last night. We have a good description of the suspect and has been seen across the borough. If you see him and you think he's up to no good. Ring 999. Do not approach the suspect just ring it in. Chelsea Safer Neighbourhood Officers will continue to conduct regular night time patrols in the area. We take this type of crime very seriously and will work hard to bring this person to justice.
Description of suspect: White male, blue jeans, black North Face jacket with a white logo, black gloves and a black electric bike with reflective tyre rims.
